The big one! The 2018 Cairns MTB Club Downhill Champs was run and won down the infamous Cairns Worlds DH Course. A relatively small field today battled very dry and very dusty conditions (and some hectic wind!) to be crowned the Champ, and to take home some bling’n custom trophies!
It wasn’t all smooth sailing, with a few spills and some broken bikes… Big up to Joel Sutherland and Ricky Roberts specifically who took some hard hits today!
In the end, it was Townsville’s Peter ‘Donkey’ Knott snagging the top spot in Elite Male and of course the OG, Queen of the Jungle; Tracey Hannah bringing home some redemption in Elite Female after nearly 12 months since ‘that run’… Well done!!
Congrats to all racers for getting stuck in and having a go, we hope to be back on the Worlds course again in 2019! HUGE thanks to our tireless course marshals for today – and to all volunteers who have helped not only today, but for the 2018 season! We can’t run these races without your help!
Thanks again to the race sponsors & supporters and everyone else who makes these races happen:
Tropic Rides MTB shuttles and Tours
Spudhead for keeping our bellies full
