Pipeline | fresh trails for the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park!
No doubt you are all by now fully aware of the brand new, hero trail in the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park. Heck, we’re sure you’ve all already ridden it ^n times! Pipeline is truly a one-of-a-kind trail, cutting through fresh terrain in the heart of the park. Graded an intermediate / Blue trail, Pipeline is accessible via the top of Wobbegong (1st Finger), and is suited to a multitude of riders with some fitness required to climb all those switchbacks, totalling some 300m+ elevation gain. Luckily, the switchbacks take out the harshness of the climb itself and instead allow you to slow down, and take in the surroundings before plummeting back down the descent.
Ohhhh the berms! While not overly technical, it can offer a challenge to any rider wanting to push themselves. Rollers become gaps, and the berms beckon you to lean it in and see ‘how fast can i go?’ – effortlessly linking one switchback to another. When you reach the bottom, you then find yourself with the option to take the easy way out, or opt in for a last dash of technical fun via the original WC Barramundi (2nd Finger) descent. Take note – this means the original, climb portion of Barramundi is now the roll-out of Pipeline, meaning it is no longer a climb / descend loop.
It goes without saying, Evan Winton and the crew from WintonScapes has done an absolutely incredible job over the last year preparing, and building this fantastic trail!
With the upcoming Reef to Reef, Pipeline will no doubt feature as the keystone trail, at least for Day 1! Riders will be travelling from all over the country and will get to experience the finest rainforest trails on offer, and we’re sure they will love it!
With all this said and done, we want to (again) bring your attention to our Trail Fund– where the money donated goes towards not only maintaining and preserving our amazing trail network, but also towards new trails like these. Every bit helps!
The newest addition to the Smithfield Mountain Bike Park! Pipeline takes riders on an epic journey up the middle of the park reaching the WC DH course, before descending back past massive boulders and through head-high berms, finishing off at the top of Barramundi.
