FAQs
Members
These cover common questions asked by current or prospective club members.
What are the benefits of becoming a CMBC member?
Members support trail maintenance, get access to club events, social rides, coaching clinics, insurance via AusCycling, and are part of a vibrant MTB community.
How much does membership cost, and what’s included?
Membership is $30 annually, added to your AusCycling licence. It includes access to events, trail development support, and insurance cover.
Do I need an AusCycling licence to ride or race?
Yes — an AusCycling licence is required to race and participate in sanctioned events. A recreational licence is enough if you don’t plan to race.
What types of events and rides does the club offer?
The club runs enduro races, downhill events, coaching days, social rides, and women-only rides throughout the year. There’s also a monthly social ride most dry season months - check here to sign up for a ride and join in - https://www.revolutionise.com.
Can I ride the Smithfield trails without being a member?
Yes, but membership helps maintain the trails and ensures future development. Members also get more from the community and insurance coverage.
Volunteers
For those keen to help out behind the scenes with trail building, event support, etc.
How can I volunteer with CMBC?
You can sign up to help with trail maintenance, event marshalling, timing, course setup, or admin. Contact the club via the website or socials.
Do I need experience to volunteer?
No — volunteers of all skill levels are welcome. You’ll be shown what to do, whether it’s raking trails or helping run an event.
When are working bees or trail days held?
These are usually announced on the website, social media, and member newsletters. They're often weekends or evenings.
Is volunteering covered by insurance?
Yes — if you’re a CMBC member with a valid AusCycling licence (good news is you can get a free $0 volunteer membership to help out, you’re covered under volunteer insurance for sanctioned club activities.
Can I volunteer if I’m not a rider?
Yes — many volunteers don’t ride but want to support the community. Event help, admin, and marshalling all need hands!
Are there incentives for volunteers?
Yes — volunteers may get free event entry, club merch, or recognition at club events. Most importantly, you're contributing to the trail network.
