Wet Season Trail Update: A Call for Patience

Cairns Mountain Bike Club

As we navigate the usual challenges of the wet season, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in managing our trails.

Despite getting our fair share of rain wind and trees down in the park – the we’ve been lucky this year in FNQ ! MANY  other trail networks around the state have been smashed by extreme rainfall events even more than us!!!

Here’s an update on the current situation in Smithfield and what you can do to help:

Current Trail Conditions

Smithfield Mountain Bike Park

The park remains open for riders to use with caution due to high demand.

Usual Wet Season Rains – November to March each year severe weather conditions impact our trails, including waterlogged soil and fallen trees.

Trail Status

Many trails are open with caution, but please be mindful of wet conditions and potential new hazards. (* yes each and every time you ride!)
We aim to update the Webpage map regularly but crowd sourcing information on local trails by Trailforks may be helpful.

Managing Trails in Wet Weather

Safety First

Avoid riding on trails during or immediately after heavy rain to prevent damage and ensure safety – this brings the moisture to the surface and the trail takes much longer to dry out even when we do get sunny/hot and windy weather.

Trail Reports

We are all volunteers and can only do what we can. But every single park user can help by spreading the word and learning how best to help out the community. Report any debris / closed trails / or required repairs to any damaged trails. Preference – Use Trailforks to drop a pin where your trail issue is. (even better if you can add pics! )

Or if you don’t know how – you can still old school email president@cairnsmtb.com or report to our social media pages.

Your help is invaluable, the sooner we get notified the sooner we can rectify park issues

Trail Maintenance

We are working hard with our rangers at QPWS to clear any debris and repair damaged trails with the help of trail contractors. Your patience is crucial as we prioritize safety and sustainability.  There are some things volunteers can do – but machine building trails is not one of them – respect the trade of our awesome skilled trail-builders.
